If you’re entered for our first ride of the year on Sunday, we’re looking forward to seeing you at Sugnall.
Below is a run down of all the information we think you’ll need for the weekend, but as always, if you have a question, just get in touch and we’ll get back to you as quick as we can:
We’ve monitored the proposed route for the ride over the last few weeks and will be making a couple of tweaks to try to avoid some of the muckier lanes this Sunday. Our final drive/ride of the route will take place on Thursday and we’ll issue the final route then via our Strava club page and in a direct email to you. GPX files of the route will be available on Strava.
The beast from the East – Weather and contingencies for the weekend:
At the moment, the forecast for Eccleshall and its surrounds says temperatures will stay above freezing on Saturday night and Sunday morning. On that basis we’re expecting to run according to our original schedule. If the weather changes and early frost is a possibility, our first measure will be to delay the start by an hour. We don’t anticipate a need to cancel the event at this stage, but if we do, that decision will be taken on Saturday and you’ll be notified by email.
Lastly on this, if we are forced to cancel, we’ll reschedule the event with all entries carried over to the new date.
08.00 – Registration, Tea and Coffee
09.00 – Riders depart
11.00 – Finishers food begins
01.30 – Cut off for finishing
Food and Drink:
As promised, we’ll be serving up Tea and Coffee for everyone before and after the ride on Sunday along with Beans on Toast at the end of the ride.
Since advertising and booking the event with Sugnall, the operator of the cafe has left. So we’ll be teaming up with Lymestone Brewery once again as our on site caterers for the day, our thanks to them for helping out at short notice.
Parking & Toilets:
Parking and Toilets for the event are across the road from the walled garden in the business centre. These will be open from 7.30am.
Overflow parking will be at the back of the walled garden. If required, we’ll put a steward on the car park to direct you there.
Sponsors and Supporters:
We’ve received some generous support from a number of sponsors for our opening event of the year. Please show your gratitude by finding them and following them on social media Those sponsors are:
Mammoth Lifestyle – Mammoth will be on site with basic mechanical support ton the morning of the event. So if you arrive with a bike that needs a tweak they’ll do their best to help you out. They’ll also be selling a few basic spares in case you forget any essentials or need a new tyre or tune to get you underway.
Black Mamba Gloves – We’ll have a pair of latex mechanic gloves for every attendee on Sunday, so if you do have to deal with any mechanicals out on the road, at least you can keep your hands clean for when you get back for brunch!
Pedalsure – As our official insurer for the event, we’re always happy to recommend that you take a look at https://www.pedalsure.com/ridestaffs to cover yourself and your bike whenever you’re riding.
Silkolene/Fuchs – Our official wash and lube partner for 2018, we’ll be handing out samples of their products at the start of the ride on Sunday.
KOM Nutrition – Our 2018 nutrition partner will be on site with bars and gels to purchase for the ride on the day.
And a final word about road conditions on Sunday:
Regardless of the weather on the day, the Primavera takes place on country lanes that bare the brunt of everything that winter weather and traffic can throw at them. Where possible we’ve chosen the route to avoid the worst of the winter, but this is an early season ride and you’re going to get a bit mucky this Sunday.
The ride will have the potential to be tough on equipment, so please examine your bike well and attend to any cut tyres or wobbly spokes before you arrive on the day. Wider tyres are definitely something we’d advise for the ride (we’re running 28mm’s right now) and mudguards or a Rear Guard like the one made by Rapid Racer Products would definitely be an advantage on the day.
Whatever kit you choose to bring in the day, enjoy your ride with us, but please exercise caution as you take on the route and look out for your fellow participants as you make your way safely back to Sugnall.
