RideStaffs: Staffordshire Cycling Festival 2017

For 2017 the RideStaffs Staffordshire Cycling Festival moves from Shugborough Hall to Chillington Hall in Staffordshire. Our three sportive routes are new and include an all new gravel road finish on roads that are normally closed to the public.

Before during and after your event, expect a warm friendly atmosphere and great food and drink as we take over the secluded model farm that’s snuck away behind Chillington Hall itself.

The Long One

  • Distance: 69.3miles / 111km

  • Climbing: 2,738ft / 834m

  • Minimum Average Speed = 12mph

About the route:

While we’re starting from a new venue, we’ve resisted the temptation to venture over the border and into Shropshire (for now!). As such our long ride takes you east to begin and into the familiar territory of Cannock Chase to begin with before continuing over the stunning Blithfield Reservoir and on towards Uttoxeter.

The most northern point of our route is the town of Stone and from there it’s new territory for our July sportive as we go west then south through Seighford and on to Haughton, Church Eaton and Wheaton Aston before the final few miles back to Chillington and the closed road finale through the grounds of the estate itself.

  • There will be 2 feed stops on the long sportive route, the first is at Wolseley Wine Loft, the second at Bear Coffee in Uttoxeter

The Middle One

  • Distance: 44.5miles / 71.6km

  • Climbing: 1620ft / 493m

  • Minimum Average Speed = 12mph

About the route:

Our middle sportive shares its first 20 miles with the Long sportive, sharing it’s high point with that ride after 11 miles as you climb onto Cannock Chase. The two routes separate between Rugeley and Abbots Bromley, with this route heading west and back toward the villages of Great Haywood and Tixall before climbing back over Cannock Chase via Brocton.

The next section of the route will provide a little respite as it descends toward Penkridge and on toward Brewood before the final push back to Chillington. Save a little for the final section, it’s tougher than it looks!

  • There will be 1 feed on the medium sportive route at Wolseley Wine Loft.

The Short One

  • Distance: 26.3miles / 42km

  • Climbing: 932ft / 284m

  • Minimum Average Speed = 10mph

About the route:

Our short sportive parts company with the other 2 routes shortly after you leave the hall, giving you a gentler route with less climbing to test the legs of beginners and others who fancy a shorter ride on the day.

By keeping to smaller and quieter roads we’ve been able to devise you a route that doesn’t cross any main roads and also returns close to the start location a number of times, so if this is your first event and you find it a little too much, you’ll be able to find a short cut back to the finish with a mobile phone or map.

  • There is no scheduled feed stop on the short sportive route

And at the end?

Lymestone Beech and then your pie

Lymestone Brewery:

Every finisher at our 2017 sportives will be entitled to either a free half of Lymestone’s special RideStaffs ale (over 18’s only) or a soft drink as part of their reward for completing their sportive ride.

RideStaffs Neck Warmer

Neck Warmer:

Every year has a different design, (some people have them all!). There’s one of these waiting for every finisher at the end of their ride in Chillington.

Medal:

Proof that you were there and you did it. Of course there’s a medal for every finisher too!

Coffee on the hoof

Coffee on the Hoof

They’ll be there before you go (and when you get back!) with great coffee, just the way you like it. Beans, as always at RideStaffs will be supplied by our good friends at HasBean

Lily’s Secret Vintage Tea Room

A comfy seat to rest and reflect on a great day out with tea, coffee and cakes to reward a job well done. Lily’s secret vintage tea room will be relocating for one day only from it’s usual home in Gnosall to join us at Chillington Hall.

The Tour on the Telly:

Like in 2016, we’ll have a big screen in the festival village and you’ll be able to sit back, relax and watch the Tour de France for as long as it’s on the telly on 2nd July. So come and ride, then sit back and relax with a well earned drink and enjoy a summer Sunday with us.

Fresh Wood Fired Kitchen

Returning for a second year, the Fresh Wood Fired Kitchen will be selling their highly regarded wood fired pizzas by the time you return from your ride. But look out too for their breakfast offering early on Sunday morning! All ingredients are directly sourced and chosen for their high standards of taste, traceability and authenticity.
