From the start in the centre of Uttoxeter, the first part of the Spring Forward route takes you north and it’s not long before the road begins to rise.
At Alton after 6 miles the route begins to turn south for the first time and the toughest phase of your ride begins with the climb of Quarry Bank after 8 miles taking you to the high point of your ride. After that you’ll take on a series of smaller undulations that gradually give way to the flatter roads of the mid section of our route.
After a feed at half distance, the later part of the route again becomes more undulating and while there are no mountains to tackle, the road will punish anyone who’s put too much into the first half (or too little into their winter training!)
When you descend Hanbury Hill you’ll have just 6 miles left to the finish and just one more climb to test you before the drop down into Uttoxeter and the relaxing surroundings of the finish.
Our short route has a much gentler start to proceedings, heading west out of Uttoxeter towards in the direction of Stone. After 5 miles you’ll join up with the longer route to continue through Amerton and Hixon before splitting at Newton for a more direct route through Hoar Cross to rejoin the longer route after 21 miles.
After that its the same return route to Uttoxeter for both rides.
There’s no difference in cost for the 2 rides, so you can leave it till the day to choose whether to go long or short. You can even start on the long route and join the short route if you overreach a bit on the day. Our purpose is to provide a fun day out for you on the bike, so feel free to do what feels right for you on the day.
