MAMMOTH MONDAY RIDESTAFFS RAID -28th MAY 2018-04-23T17:05:43+00:00

Project Description

Mammoth Monday – The RideStaffs Raid – 28th May: Milford, Stafford

Take the rough or the smooth. Shorter 40mile option added!

We’re doing something different this Late May bank holiday and teaming up with our friends at Mammoth in Milford to do our first ever mixed terrain ride. 67 miles and 5 sections of gravel road will make this an exciting proposition for more adventurous riders keen to discover some new places to ride in and around Staffordshire.

To create the route we’ve drawn on our own experiences and picked the brains of Gary Foord at Mammoth to uncover a few bits of the road less travelled that you can enjoy on the day.

And if you don’t fancy the rough roads we’re offering up? No problem, for each gravel section we’ll have the option of a smoother path on standard roads for you to go for instead. Pick and choose as you see fit on the day.

Fancy the 40miler?

Beginning with the same climb over Cannock Chase as the longer ride, our short option shares that route until the 2omile point where you’ll part company for your own route.

Handsacre, Hill Ridware and Blithbury are the villages that will connect you back to the longer route at Abbots Bromley where you’ll rejoin your fitter (or just more tired!) fellow riders for the last loop back into Milford.

The Route (gravel sections to be revealed)

Starting at Mammoth Lifestyle in Milford, the route starts with the climb up onto Cannock chase quickly followed by Style Cop. After the top of the Cop, rolling roads eventually give way to a gradual descent down to the flatter middle section of our route.

The roads between 20 and 40 miles of your ride have a distinctly Flandrian feel as we make our way across past Catton Hall and on to Barton-under-Needwood before climbing up to Needwood and on to Hanbury.

From there we’re onto the Marchington road, but instead of heading back towards Uttoxeter as you might if you’re riding our April Spring Forward Sportive, we’ve got something new in store.  The next section of our route takes in the brutal little berg that’s Woodroffe’s Cliff. Maxing out at over 25%, this  ascent will see what’s left in your legs as you enter the final section of your ride with us.

From there it’s all downhill to the finish.

Just kidding, the final part of the route that has more downs than ups, but plenty of both as you pick your way back to Hixon, then Great Haywood, Tixall and home for well earned coffee, cake and relaxation at the finish line in Milford.

And the gravel?

We’ll be revealing the sectors of gravel, rough stuff or whatever you want to call it over the next few weeks.

What’s included?

A big smile to warm your heart and a ride staffs neck warmer to keep out the drafts will welcome you at registration. Pre-ride we’ll have a fully stocked bike shop and a mechanic to take care of any last minute mishaps or forgotten footwear, there’s a feed station en route and first aid and breakdown recovery are all part of the price.
